On Sunday, February 1, 2015 a significant development in the life of Green Hill Presbyterian Church will occur as Rev. Shuford White becomes our new Interim Pastor.

Rev. White is coming to us after serving over six years at the Galatia Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He has 26 years of experience as a Solo Pastor in small to medium churches, five years of experience as an Associate Pastor, five years in overseas ministry as a Solo Pastor in New Zealand, and one year as a Volunteer-In-Mission in South Korea.

Prior to his graduation from Columbia Seminary with a Master of Divinity Degree and ordination in the Presbyterian Church in 1986, he graduated from Birmingham Southern College and subsequently earned a Master’s Degree at the University of Alabama Birmingham.

For the last six years he has served as chair of the Committee on Ministry-Central for the Coastal Carolina Presbytery and on the executive committee of that presbytery’s Committee on Ministry, which serves almost 200 churches. He has served as a planning team member of the Christian Life Conference in Montreat, North Carolina and is currently on the Development and Planning Team for Hope Conference, Montreat, North Carolina.  He has previously served as both Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Long Term Recovery Organization in Santa Rosa County, Florida, and has also been a member of the Commission for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.

Shuford and his wife, Susan, have been married for 28 years. They have two children, three grandchildren, and two dogs. Growing up in Alabama, he was first a teacher and coach and then managed a chain of auto parts stores until recognizing the hand of God leading him to seminary. To this day, Shuford remains an avid “Roll Tide!” fan while Susan is a dedicated “War Eagle!” supporter.

The Whites will establish a residence here in Enterprise as well as in Milton, Florida, where they eventually hope to retire.

Green Hill Presbyterian Church welcomes the Whites. We are excited that God has led them here in and look forward to a wonderful and rewarding association with them. May God bless them as they minister to us!


The monthly stated meeting of the Session of Green Hill Presbyterian Church was held Sunday, January 11, 2015. Rev. David Jamison served as moderator, all Ruling Elders were present, and Treasurer Joel M. was also in attendance.

Election of Session Officers: Joel M. was reelected to another year term as Treasurer, with Betty C. and Gloria W. approved as Assistant Treasurers. Walter L. was elected as Clerk of Session.

Treasures Report: Joel M. presented the Treasurer’s Report, noting a positive balance of funds of $5291.59 for the year. The 2015 Green Hill General Budget was submitted and approved.

Committee Reports: Building and Grounds reported a new microphone system was purchased. Congregational care distributed a revised 2015 elder sponsor list.

New committee chairman assignments are as follows:

The Resolution Team from Presbytery is scheduled to initially meet with our Session on Wednesday, January 28 at 6 PM. The initial goals of the Resolution Team will be to hear the concerns of Green Hill Church and create a climate which allows the Holy Spirit to affect healing of the issues noted by our concerns.

The next meeting of the South Alabama Presbytery is scheduled for February 27 and 28, 2015 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Commissioners designated are Rev. Shuford White and Elders Denise A. and Walter L.

The session approved participation in the PCUSA Presbyterian panel. We are one of 500 churches randomly selected to offer our views on various issues.

Thanks were expressed to Rev. Jamison for his dedication and time during the last several months to the needs of green Hill church.

The next session meeting is scheduled for Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 2 P.M.

The Session of Green Hill Presbyterian Church has requested the Presbytery of South Alabama form and send a Resolution Team to consult with our Session and our Congregation concerning perceived issues of deviation from the Word of God within our denomination, as highlighted by the recommendations made to change in polity at the 221st General Assembly, and to effect healing of the various opinions currently expressed by the membership of our Congregation. 

The team that has been formed is made up of Ruling and Teaching Elders from our Presbytery, including our dear friend Rev. David Jamison. As our congregation is divided in its wishes, calling a Resolution Team is the next logical step.

As of press time, the Session was scheduled to have its first meeting with the Resolution Team on Wednesday, January 28.

The purpose of the Resolution Team is to engage the congregation of Green Hill and its leaders in a prayerful discernment process seeking a mutual understanding of what God may will for the relationship between Green Hill and PCUSA. It is the intent of this process that all parties will seek an amicable and equitable agreement about how Green Hill may either remain in the PCUSA or be dismissed.

The Session of Green Hill Presbyterian Church calls upon all members to enter into a period of personal and corporate prayer, discernment, and repentance, in order to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit as to how to properly respond to the past actions of our General Assembly and future decisions regarding our denomination.


The Missions Committee for Green Hill Presbyterian Church met on Sunday afternoon, October 26, 2014.

We briefly reviewed Christian mission efforts in America in the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as an analysis of why programs succeeded or failed. The history of missions in the church was reviewed with biblical citations. The selection of missionaries and partnerships with missions was then discussed. It was noted that a church can either support many missionaries in small levels or support a few missionaries at high levels, there being a limit to how many missionaries a church can faithfully assist financially. It was noted that churches generally make a greater impact for the kingdom of God when they can target a few missions rather than pursue a broad and general approach.       

The committee then discussed the annual budget for missions. There was a strong and positive feeling among all members of the committee that since as individuals we are called to contribute a tithe of our income, and understanding the biblical importance given to missions, the church should endeavor to likewise contribute a tithe (10%) from its annual budget. Unfortunately, we will be unable to meet that goal this year, as projected contributions have decreased, and necessary funds are unavailable at present.

Criteria were established by which mission projects would be considered and selected.

  1. The mission must clearly demonstrate a Christian focus, that of seeking to spread Gospel.
  2. The mission must not be primarily supported by other secular agencies.
  3. The mission must not be self-sustaining.                      
  4. All alliances the mission forms with other agencies must be with Christ-based organizations.
  5. The mission must demonstrate a need.

The committee then chose to allocate distribution of mission funds between local/stateside and overseas projects, with 60% of funding going to local/stateside missions and 40% of funding to overseas missions.  All missions selected were rigorously reviewed in depth by the criteria established above from information available, including mission/vision statements, work conducted as evidenced from websites and experiences of committee members, and any other concerns.


More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group: “Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.” On Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, Green Hill will take up our annual collection for the Souper Bowl of Caring. Financial donations and donations of non-perishable food will be collected in the Fellowship Hall. Everything donated will go to support our Green Hill Food Pantry.


The Food Closet Committee would like to thank everyone for your support in 2014. We fed, with your help, 30 families and 101 individuals. The referrals came from Family Services (15), DHR (9), First United Methodist Church (3), along with requests from three individuals. We also donated food to the Christian Mission, particularly items for their Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Our mission is to serve Coffee County residents who are in need and referred by agencies or church members. We appreciate all that the members of Green Hill do for this community outreach program. The Food Closet committee members are Rosemary C., Betty C., Bobbie M., and Helen S. If anyone is interested in volunteering with us, please contact one of these ladies.


In 2014, the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund was used to assist 98 area households (290 individuals). Working with Coffee County Family Services and other area charities, we were able to pay up to the “Final $50” on each bill to help these families keep their utilities turned on. Many of the requests came with the freezing temperatures in the final month of the year. Thank you so much for continuing to support this very worthy mission of the church!


On Sunday, February 8, the Green Hill congregation will be joined at morning worship by the boys and the parents from Boy Scout Troop #150 and Cub Scout Pack #150. Scout Sunday marks the founding of scouting in the United States. On this day, the troop and the pack will lead parts of the worship service, and special recognition will be given to the Eagle Scouts. Please join us to welcome our scouting families.


On Sunday, February 15, at 8:30am, all of the ladies in the church are welcome to attend a Sweet Heart Breakfast hosted by the men of the church. Each year the men set up such a wonderful meal that is the perfect follow-up to Valentine’s Day. Please join us for breakfast.

As many of you know, our church sends support to a student at Calvin Seminary.  His name is Jose P.  He is finishing his Master of Theological Studies.  His goal is to become a pastor of a church and to teach at San Pablo Seminary part-time.

I hope you are doing well.  As I have been doing in the past, I want to thank you for your prayers as I study at Calvin Seminary…So far my family and I are doing well, and we ask your prayers for our last semester in the United States. God willing, I will graduate in May, and we are preparing to return to Mexico this coming June.  May God bless you always.

On Sunday, February 1, Rev. Shuford White will officially become the interim minister at Green Hill. To celebrate his and his wife’s arrival, we are going to have a Soup & Dessert Luncheon. This meal will take place immediately following the morning worship service. We hope that everyone will be able to attend.


Thank you to Rev. David Jamison, Rev. John Granger, and Rev. Louie Reynolds, for being our Guest Ministers during the month of January.  We look forward to seeing them again when they are able to join us.


The Christian movie, “A Matter of Faith” is premiering at College Cinema in Enterprise, AL, on Feb 6th. It will only be shown for about 1 1/2 weeks because of numerous secular movies premiering.

This movie is about Creation vs Evolution & is a MUST see for school age children & youth, but great movie for ALL ages.

We need your support, by coming to see this movie, in order to support future Christian movies coming to our area. “No demand, then no supply.”
