STORIES FROM BURKINA FASO
A Life Transformed
After a shoebox distribution, a local volunteer reported: “One boy who smoked cigarettes was seriously ill. He was touched by the gifts and gave his life to the Lord, who transformed him. Today, he no longer smokes. He recovered his health and is joyful with his parents. He even helps with Sunday school.”
At an OCC shoebox distribution, Levi, 11-years-old, gave his life to God and his parents – who had abandoned the faith – returned to the church.
A local volunteer said: “Many children and adults gave their lives to the Lord after the distribution of the shoeboxes. The population is asking for someone to come to plant a church.”

STORIES FROM CHAD
He Will Supply Your Every Need
In the city of Monudou, a boy needed the necessary supplies to attend school, but his mother had no money to buy these things. The boy was invited to an Operation Christmas Child shoebox distribution. In his shoebox were all the school supplies he needed. The boy was overjoyed and thanked God for answering his prayer. His mother excitedly testified that this was an act of God’s love manifested towards her son.
The Greatest Gift of All
Bella had received a gift one day from a friend who attended a shoebox distribution at a local church. Elated, she asked her mother daily if she could be allowed to visit the church to thank them for what they had done. Her mother finally conceded. During her visit, a church leader had the opportunity to tell her about the greatest gift of all, Jesus Christ, and Bella accepted Him as her Savior. After telling her mother about her new relationship with Jesus, Bella was then allowed to attend church every Sunday.
A Gift of Joy
From Emily, a resident of Kelo: “All over Kelo, the churches have been distributing these boxes and the kids are so happy! They love it! When one of the boys who always hangs out at our house first came with a bookmark that he said he had gotten from the church, I thought it was just from Bible School. He brought one item, then another item, until finally the next morning he brought the whole shoebox over. He was so proud of his new baseball cap and T-shirt. If you’ve ever sent a box like this in the past, thank you from us, and thank you from the children—their joy is priceless.”
PRAYER REQUESTS FROM MINISTRY PARTNERS IN CHAD
- Praise God for the health and well-being of the project leadership and the great opportunities to reach unreached areas in Chad.
- Pray for the safety of the containers as they arrive in Chad, go through customs, and are transported to their final destinations.
THE GREATEST JOURNEY
Your shoebox is just the first step to transforming a young life for eternity. Every shoebox gift delivered by Operation Christmas Child is a tangible expression of God’s love. It also presents an opportunity in more than 100 countries for our church partners to invite children into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through our follow-up discipleship program. The Greatest Journey is a dynamic approach to discipleship—including 12 engaging Bible lessons—that local trained teachers are using to instruct the next generation of believers on how to become devoted followers of Christ and boldly share their faith with others. Worldwide, 4.7 million children have enrolled in the program since 2009.
These Bible lessons are offered to children who receive a shoebox gift. These 12 lessons guide children through a study of who Jesus Christ is, what it means to follow Him, and how to share this exciting message with others.
- Nearly 82,000 children in Burkina Faso have enrolled in this program since it started, and over 68,000 have graduated.
- Over 29,000 children in Chad have enrolled in this program since it started, and more than 25,000 have graduated.
