Fellowship Community Update, May 25, 2016

Dear Friends,

Staying strong in faith and in ministry is not something we do alone. The Fellowship Community is here for you, helping evangelical Presbyterians stay connected with one another, stay grounded theologically, and stay focused outward on the work and world to which God calls us. Much is happening in TFC.

Staff Changes:

Paul Detterman, TFC’s National Director, has been called to serve as Senior Pastor/Head of Staff of the First Presbyterian Church of River Forest, IL. Paul and Debbie will be leaving TFC this summer to begin this new chapter in their ministry. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for their faithful service!

Interim National Director Named:

Nicole Lock has been named Interim National Director beginning June 1. Nicole is a Teaching Elder active in Greater Atlanta Presbytery. She has been part of TFC leadership from the beginning, serving most recently as Vice President of the Presiding Board. Nicole also begins a call as Interim Pastor of Presbyterian Church of the Resurrection in Conyers, GA. She will be serving TFC part time through our transition.

TFC National Gathering Date Change:

We have heard from you that one of the most important things the Fellowship Community does is our National Gathering. We agree!  And we heard that the second week of September was not working for you to attend this year. So we have postponed the National Gathering scheduled for Pittsburgh. We are in final negotiations on the date and site of the rescheduled gathering, but February 2017 is our target!

Superb Theology Conference:

Scholars, pastors, and lay leaders from the PC(USA), ECO, EPC, and other Reformed denominations gathered April 25-27 at First Presbyterian Church, San Diego for a rich time of teaching, discussion and fellowship focused on the Reformed understanding of the Ascension.  Thanks to the wonderful hospitality of FPC and Jerry Andrews, The Fellowship Community provided an opportunity for souls to be fed and leadership to be formed and informed by the best of Reformed theology.

“Together Is Better”:

The Together Is Better Conference was held in April in Clinton, SC, hosted by two missional clusters with a combined thirty years’ experience in collaborative ministry. The event was held to motivate smaller congregations to consider working together to achieve more effective missional impact. Not only were participants encouraged and informed about the missional cluster approach to ministry but a number made commitments to go to Cuba, Haiti and Albania during the next ten months. The question being asked was: “When will we do this again?”

General Assembly:

The Fellowship Community will be at General Assembly this year to support evangelical commissioners and to represent a distinctive identity that is possible within the PC(USA). Look for us in the Exhibit Hall at Booth 153.

A TFC Regional Gathering in Texas:

Mark your calendars for our next regional gathering, “The Church Through the Looking Glass: Being the Church in a Crazy New World,” Saturday, August 20, 2016, 9am-4pm at First Presbyterian Church, Arlington, TX. Plenary Speaker is Jim Singleton. More details to come!

Resources Needed:

The Fellowship Community needs you to continue these and more endeavors to which Jesus has called us!  Please consider making a gift today at http://www.fellowship.community.

In His Service,

Rev. Mark Brewer,
President, The Fellowship Community
