GREEN HILL GOOD NEWS, JUNE & JULY 2016

“If you want to keep happy and healthy, try being an inverse paranoid,” says Dr. Rich Bimler, a Lutheran pastor and father.  “An inverse paranoid is someone who thinks everyone is out to make him happy.”

“Try it.  It works.  Just imagine everyone you meet is trying to bring happiness and joy to your life.  And then try to do the same for them.”

“You and I are called by God to be happy.  To be happy does not mean that everything has to go right, and that problems and frustrations disappear.  A happy person in the Lord is one who knows from where strength and comfort come.”

He advises Christians to “Live joyfully in the forgiveness that is yours each day.”

JEAN LEGTERS VISITING FROM MEXICO

Jean Legters and her son will be visiting from Merida, Mexico in June.  They will be in Enterprise on the evening of the 14th, and they would like to visit with anyone who remembers them.  For those of you who don’t know, Green Hill has been supporting this missionary family for many, many years.  We have had a very long relationship with Jean and her late husband.

Betty Cully is reserving a table at Po Folks that evening for those who would like to go out to eat and visit with the Legters.  If you plan to attend, please call her.  She needs to let the restaurant know how much space will be needed.

GREEN HILL YOUTH ATTEND AWARDS CEREMONY

In the past year, three of our Green Hill youth have earned their Girl Scout Bronze Awards.  Kendall and Makayla completed their project over the summer, and Emma completed her project a few weeks ago.

On May 21 they all traveled to Montgomery to be recognized in a special awards ceremony along with other Girl Scouts in Southern Alabama who received their Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards.  The event was also a celebration of the Gold Award Centennial, 100 years since the Gold Award was introduced to the Girl Scouting program.  We are so proud of our Green Hill youth and we can’t wait to see what they do next!

GREEN HILL WOMEN

The Alabama/Mississippi Women’s Conference will be held July 13–15, 2016, at South Highland Presbyterian, Birmingham. Workshop presenters include Dee Koza, Lara Reddick, Ann Houston Kelly and Lynn Miller.

Several of our ladies have signed up to go.  If you are interested in attending, please contact Gloria Webb or Betty Bierbaum for more information.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, JUNE 6 TO JUNE 10

Are you ready to go Backstage with the Bible?  We are!  Green Hill is preparing to host another amazing Vacation Bible School this summer.  The dates have been set, June 6 to June 10, so mark your calendars now!  As you may have guessed, we are using another Go Fish Guys program this year.  Why?  Because everyone really likes it!  How often do you find songs for kids that educate, entertain, and don’t annoy adults!  We promise that by the end of the week you’ll all be singing along to this music in the car, and you’ll actually enjoy it!

Your kids will have a great time learning the books of the Bible, the Ten Commandments, and how to be saved by grace through faith…and that’s all just in the first few minutes of singing each day! Our goal with this Vacation Bible School is to clearly present the gospel of Jesus Christ while having as much fun as humanly possible. It’s time to put the BIBLE back into Vacation Bible School!

CONGRATULATIONS TO DR. LAWRENCE

Congratulations to Dr. Lawrence, family, and staff, on the successful relocation of his office.  As many of you know, he recently moved further up the hill on Glover Avenue to Dr. Grimes’ old office.  After several months, under the supervision of Jim Klein, the building has been totally transformed and is now a beautiful place for Dr. Lawrence to see patients.

AUGUST NEWSLETER DEADLINE

This newsletter is a double-edition, covering both June and July.  Our next newsletter will be printed for August.  If you have any information for the next newsletter, please let the church office know no later than Thursday, July 21.  Many thanks to all who contribute!

ENTERPRISE WINSHAPE CAMP, JULY 18 TO 22

Winshape is returning to Enterprise in July, and it is going to be the Best Week Ever!  Last year four of our Green Hill Youth attended the camp and they have been looking forward to this summer’s event all year.  From the moment the children arrive in the morning to when they leave in the evening, they have fun, and they learn about the Gospel.  It really is an incredible thing to see!

This year’s camp is going to be held at the Enterprise High School, for about 500 kids!  The event is hosted by Chick-fil-A and St. Luke’s United Methodist, but volunteers from all over the community are coming together to make the week a success.  If you have any questions about Winshape Camp, please contact Tracy Bullinger at 334-347-9023.
