Green Hill Good News, March 2017

Green Hill Good News Online Edition for March 2017

Jonah Youth Bible Study Graduation

1. Prayer is not a “spare wheel” that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a “steering wheel” that directs the right path throughout the journey.
2. So why is a Car’s WINDSHIELD so large and the Rear View Mirror so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So Look Ahead, and Move on.
3. Friendship is like a BOOK: It takes a few minutes to burn, but it takes years to write.
4. All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don’t worry, they can’t last long either.
5. Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don’t forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a Base of Gold!
6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, “Relax, Sweetheart, it’s just a bend…. Not the end!
7. When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn’t solve your problems, HE has faith in your abilities.
8. A blind person asked St. Anthony: “Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?” He replied: “Yes, losing your vision!”
9. When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them. And sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.
10. WORRYING does not take away tomorrow’s TROUBLES. It takes away today’s PEACE.

We are so pleased that Rev. Dr. Timothy Oleksy and his wife Laurie are coming to Alabama to be part of our Green Hill Family. His official start date at the church is April 1 and his first Worship Service with us will be on April 2. We are looking forward to getting to know the both of them better and are working on a special welcome. Stay tuned for details.

“I just want the congregation to know that you are getting a wonderful pastor in Tim and his wife Laurie. I am so sad to see them leave Huntsville, but I know that they will be a blessing to you. Please know that part of my heart is going with them, so I shall lift your congregation in prayer as all of you work together to share Christ with the Community.

In Christ’s love,
Cynthia Cross
Director of Music Ministries
First Presbyterian, Huntsville, Texas”

On Sunday, March 12, Green Hill Presbyterian Church will celebrate Girl Scout Sunday during the morning worship service. Girl Scout Sunday is designated as the day to commemorate the founding of the Girl Scouts of the USA in 1912 and to recognize the contributions Scouts make to their churches and their communities. All local scouts, both girls and boys, are welcome to attend, and are encouraged to wear their uniforms. We will have cake and punch in the Fellowship Hall after the Worship Service.

The Green Hill Girl Scouts (Kendall, Makayla, and Emma) would like to thank everyone who supported our group by buying cookies. Your purchases will help fund our special activities in the coming months. We have great things planned and we are glad our Green Hill Family can be a part of it.

Don’t forget to change your clocks before you go to bed on Saturday night, March 11. On Sunday morning, March 12, Daylight Savings Time begins, and we will lose an hour. We look forward to seeing you at church on Sunday morning, at the correct time. 🙂

“I know some people have been announcing where they are for sure going to college. I’ve been accepted to University of Alabama, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. After a lot of time, thought, and prayer, I will be attending University of Alabama in the fall!! I will be majoring in Psychology, minoring in Nutrition, and will be in Honors College. In the end, the feel of the campus and the opportunities I will have there won me over, as well as the scholarships. :)”

–Alex McDonough

Our special Wednesday night presentations will continue for at least two more weeks in March. Pot luck will at 5:30pm and the presentation will begin at 6:15pm.

On March 1, Denise Aylesworth is going to tell us all about her recent amazing trip she made to the Holy Land. Those of you who are friends with her on Facebook have gotten a sneak peek at the beautiful pictures she took. Please join us on Wednesday to hear the complete story.

On March 8, we will be joined by some homeschoolers from the Monday morning Homeschool Co-op. The Ayer Family and others will share with us what it is like to homeschool in the state of Alabama and will tell us a bit about what the homeschoolers do here on Monday mornings.

The deadline for submissions to the April newsletter is Thursday, March 16. The deadline is a little bit earlier this month because we want to get the newsletter out before the start of Spring Break, which is the last week of March. So, if you have any news to share with the congregation, please get it in to the church office early. Thank you.

It’s nearly time for St. Patrick’s Day, and that means it’s also time for the City of Enterprise to host the 25th Annual World’s Smallest St. Patrick’s Day Parade!

This year’s parade is scheduled for Friday, March 17. Promptly at Noon, the parade’s single marcher will start off at the courthouse, walk down College Street to the Boll Weevil Monument (the world’s only monument to a pest), and then return to the courthouse. Members of the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce will pass out treats to spectators on either side of the parade route.

So, come on down to Downtown Enterprise for some local fun. Who knows, you might even end up on the National News!
