Green Hill Good News April 2017

Green Hill Good News Online Edition for April 2017

The Green Hill Juliette Girl Scouts with Rep. Barry Moore on Girl Scout Advocacy Day.

There once was a rich man who was near death. He was very grieved because he had worked so hard for his money and he wanted to be able to take it with him to heaven. So he began to pray that he might be able to take some of his wealth with him.

An angel hears his plea and appears to him. “Sorry, but you can’t take your wealth with you.” The man implores the angel to speak to God to see if He might bend the rules.

The man continues to pray that his wealth could follow him. The angel reappears and informs the man that God has decided to allow him to take one suitcase with him. Overjoyed, the man gathers his largest suitcase and fills it with pure gold bars and places it beside his bed.

Soon afterward the man dies and shows up at the Gates of Heaven to greet St. Peter. St. Peter seeing the suitcase says, “Hold on, you can’t bring that in here!”

But, the man explains to St. Peter that he has permission and asks him to verify his story with the Lord. Sure enough, St. Peter checks and comes back saying, “You’re right. You are allowed one carry-on bag, but I’m supposed to check its contents before letting it through.”

St. Peter opens the suitcase to inspect the worldly items that the man found too precious to leave behind and exclaims, “You brought pavement?”

The annual art auction to support the Big Bend Wildlife Sanctuary is just around the corner! Please plan to attend on Saturday, April 1. The event begins at 3pm and will run until 6pm. There will be a silent auction for wonderful animal-themed art as well as facility tours and special exhibitions. There will be food and music too! The event will be held at the Sanctuary, on the east side of Enterprise (take 84 out to Collins Engines and hang a left on 445).

Our Green Hill Girl Scouts made it their mission two years ago to make sure everyone in the city of Enterprise knows about the Sanctuary and all of the amazing work the volunteers do for the wildlife in our area. This art auction is the Sanctuary’s main fundraiser of the year, and they need to make enough money in this one day to support their efforts for the whole rest of the year! The girls hope to see you there!

“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26

WinShape Camp is preparing for its third year in the city of Enterprise, and the Green Hill Youth are already counting down the days! For those of you who may not know, WinShape Camp is a day camp that was created by the founders of Chick-fil-A. This amazing camp blends Bible study and worship with sports, recreation, arts, and more. From introducing children to the Gospel to training our future Christian leaders of tomorrow, this adventure filled week is such a blessing to our community!

WinShape is looking for volunteers to help make this year’s camp happen. Even if you aren’t feeling adventurous, you can still help. People are needed to do everything from washing clothes and making lunches to taking registrations and passing out snacks. If you are interested in volunteering at Winshape, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Sonja Helms, 334-406-2649. Or, for more information, contact Sandra DeTora at 334-347-9530.

Information for the May Green Hill Good Newsletter needs to be submitted to the church office by Thursday, April 20. You can contact the office by email or by phone, or you can drop your news off in the basket on the door. Many thanks to those who contribute!

The Green Hill Girl Scouts would like to thank Green Hill for hosting Girl Scout Sunday last month. It means a lot to us that you took the time to recognize us, and to feed us cake! Girl Scout Sunday is a time for girls to reflect on the words “to serve God” in the Girl Scout Promise. Thank you for helping us to do that.

Kendall, Makayla, Emma, Sandi, & Pat
and the Girl Scouts of Service Unit 923

The congregation of Green Hill would like to welcome our new pastor and his wife, the Rev. Dr. Timothy Oleksy & Mrs. Laurie Oleksy. We are so happy that they are going to be part of our family.

Rev. Timothy Oleksy and his wife Laurie are moving to Alabama the last week of March. Please pray for them as they make this big transition. The first Sunday of April will be our first Sunday with them, and we want to show them a big welcome. Please plan to attend the April 2 Communion service, and then plan to stay afterward for cake and punch and a time to visit.
