Labor Day is just around the corner. Labor Day used to mark the official end of summer and “back to school” and work—along with a moderating of the summer heat! However, with the changes in the school year, kids are already into their Fall Season, and looking forward to the first Fall break!
It is comforting to be a part of a continuum in our Church Year. Our lectionary passages take no summer breaks and lead us through our Bible study year round, leading up to the end of the current Lectionary Year the last week in November (after Thanksgiving) and the beginning of the new year with the 1st Sunday in Advent, this year with Communion on December 1st.
Join us as we continue as Disciples on Sunday morning with Sunday School at 9:30 and Worship at 11am, and with a light supper and Bible Study on Wednesday at 5:30pm. And look for our special events sprinkled through the Fall Season.
Come and find your church home at Green Hill—and invite your friends to join you!
THE CHRISTIAN YEAR, FESTIVALS AND SEASONS
The festivals and seasons of the Christian year (or liturgical calendar) offer a way to order the annual life of the church according to the life of Christ and the events of salvation history. Through two millennia of Christian worship, a certain cycle of festivals and seasons has emerged and is now recognized and observed throughout the ecumenical church. Some of these events (Pentecost, Holy Week and Epiphany, e.g.) can be traced to the earliest centuries of Christian practice; others (Trinity Sunday and Christ the King, e.g.) developed later in the history of the church.

GIRL SCOUT TROOP #9123
The Girl Scouts of Troop #9123 have begun holding their meetings at Green Hill. Their request to meet at the church was approved by the Session and we are so happy to have the Girl Scouts here. Last April the Junior Girl Scouts in Troop #9123 earned their Girl Scout Bronze Awards with a project focused on Bicycle Safety. As part of their project they held a Bicycle Safety Rally that was open to all Elementary School students in town. We know these young ladies are going to continue doing amazing things in our community!

PRESBYTERIAN CELTIC CROSS AWARD
Congratulations to Sandra DeTora who has earned the Celtic Cross Award. This award, which is sponsored by the National Association of Presbyterian Scouters, is unique to the Presbyterian Church. It recognizes “adult leaders who have given exceptional service to children and youth.” Sandra was nominated for this award by the Session of Green Hill.
Some of the criteria for nomination for the Celtic Cross include being an active youth leader, supporting youth ministry, working directly with youth for a minimum of two years, and encouraging religious growth among youth. The award is typically earned by Girl Scout and Boy Scout volunteers, but it can also be earned by other members of the Presbyterian Church.
In addition to working with youth at Green Hill through things such as Vacation Bible School, Sandra has been a Girl Scout volunteer for nearly ten years. She organizes Girl Scout Sunday every year and she has led our church’s Girl Scouts through earning the My Promise My Faith Award.
The Celtic Cross will be officially presented to Sandra at an upcoming worship service. Please take a moment to congratulate her on this achievement and to thank her for her on-going service to our youth.
