GIRL SCOUT COOKIES ARE HERE!

The 2021 Girl Scout Cookie Sale has begun, and the cookies are here! We all know that Girl Scout Cookies are made of ingredients that taste great, but there is so much more! With every box of cookies they sell, Girl Scouts are learning life skills that will help them to become leaders in their communities: Decision Making, Money Management, Goal Setting, People Skills, and Business Ethics. If you’re looking for cookies, be sure to check with Kendall, Makayla, or Emma. Makayla is still registered as an Alabama Girl Scout, and the three girls are working together.

ORDINATION AND INSTALLATION

This is the start of a new year, and with that comes the ordination and installation of a new class of Elders and Trustees. The Congregation elected these members to the positions last month, and today we are finally able to make it official!

Sandy G., Pat S., and Tyler W. are coming on to the Session as our new Elders. They will join Denise A., Betty B., and Gloria W.. Their first Session meeting is this afternoon. Charles W. is coming on as a new Trustee, joining Sandra D. and Tommy P.

Please thank our out-going elders, David C., Charles O., and Joel M., and our out-going Trustee, Betty Bierbaum, for their service to the church.

BAPTISM OF THE LORD SUNDAY

The Baptism of Christ Sunday is the day commemorating the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Originally the baptism of Christ was celebrated on Epiphany, which commemorates the coming of the Magi, the baptism of Christ, and the wedding at Cana. Over time in the West, however, the celebration of the baptism of the Lord came to be commemorated as a distinct feast from Epiphany. It is celebrated in on the first Sunday following The Epiphany of Our Lord (January 6).
