Green Hill Good News, October 2021

FROM THE PASTOR’S CORNER

Summer’s heat is gone!

As I write this, a cool front from Canada is sweeping across the US and will affect our area this last weekend of September! Ah, the relief is palpable!

And with the change of seasons, we head into the “pumpkin” time, with Halloween (All Hallows Eve for some of us!)

But our God “changeth not”; Our God is the same “yesterday and forever”. This is our comfort. Our God is with us, always, loving us and reaching out towards us.

Enjoy the change of seasons; see you Sunday!

David

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

-Hebrews 13:8

OCTOBER 3 – WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY

The first Sunday in October is designated as World Communion Sunday, which celebrates our oneness in Christ with all our brothers and sisters around the world.

OCTOBER 31 – REFORMATION SUNDAY

The Church celebrates Reformation Sunday on the last Sunday of October, commemorating a significant event in the history of the Reformed tradition. It was on October 31, 1517, that Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the door of the church in Wittenberg.

NOVEMBER 1 – ALL SAINTS’ DAY

All Saints’ Day was established as an opportunity to honor all the saints, known and unknown. All Saints’ Day has been celebrated on November 1 since the year 835. Previously it had been connected with the Easter season as a feast of all martyrs.

ORDINARY TIME / TIME AFTER PENTECOST

We are currently in the period of the Christian Calendar known as Ordinary Time or the Time after Pentecost. The next season of the church, Advent, will begin in November as we prepare for Christmas.

LOCAL GIRL SCOUT TROOP EARNS GSUSA BRONZE AWARD

As part of earning their Bronze Award, Girl Scout Troop #9114 in Enterprise partnered with Christian Mission and SEACH to make 50 sit upon buckets with recycled grocery cross-body straps to be donated to the homeless in the Wiregrass. Each bucket had a headlamp, poncho, emergency blanket, and toiletries the Girl Scouts collected through fundraising. To learn more about this wonderful project, stop by the Fellowship Hall to see the Troop’s display board. Girl Scout Troop #9114 is thankful to Green Hill for allowing them space to hold troop meetings and for Green Hill’s continued support of Girl Scouting in Enterprise.
