PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN THANK OFFERING
This Sunday, November 26, is the last Sunday we will be accepting offerings for the annual Presbyterian Women Thank Offering. If you feel called to give to this special collection, please use one of the blue envelopes. Thank you.
GREENING OF THE CHURCH
On Wednesday, November 29, everyone who is able to make it is invited to participate in the annual “Greening of the Church,” also known as the “Hanging of the Greens.” Immediately following the Men’s Bible Study, at 8:30am, we will pull the boxes out of the attic and decorate the church. This will include putting up the tree in the Sanctuary, setting up the Advent candles, hanging the wreaths, and more. Please join us in this annual tradition of preparing the church building for the Advent and Christmas Season.
The beginning of the Advent Season is just around the corner. During the month of December we will light the candles in the Advent Wreath, one by one, leading up to Christmas Eve. Please join us each Sunday as we prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of the Christ Child.
• December 3rd – The Candle of Hope
• December 10th – The Candle of Peace
• December 17th – The Candle of Joy
• December 24th – The Candle of Love
• Christmas Eve – The Christ Candle
Over the past few days, Green Hill has seen a sharp increase in calls for food and utility assistance, and for help getting toys for Christmas. The information below should answer the most of the questions coming in. If you have other questions, please contact the church office.
Green Hill offers help to those in need both through a food pantry and a fund for utility payments. All requests for assistance are approved by the staff at Coffee County Family Services. If you need either food or utility assistance, please contact Family Services at 334-393-8538. You can also visit their office in person at 208 West Brunson Street. The caring staff at Family Services will evaluate your household’s situation and, if possible, help you get assistance from one of the many local charities they work with.
In December, Green Hill will serve as a distribution point for the 2017 Toys for Tots program. Toys for Tots is no longer taking new applications for this year’s program. On the day of distribution, toys will only be available for those families who registered in advance. Families who are receiving toys will have detailed instructions on how and when to pick them up. Early or late pickup will not be available.
Give Thanks * Rev. Dr. Timothy Oleksy
Service begins at 11:00am * All are Welcome!
Sunday, November 19, is Stewardship Sunday. Each member is asked to prayerfully examine their resources and to pledge a portion to God’s work. Each member should have received a pledge card in the mail. Extra cards are available in the church office. During this Sunday’s worship service, please place your card in the offering plate. Our Treasurer, Joel Mikuta, is the only person who will see what is written on the cards. If you are not able to get your card in this Sunday, please plan to get it into Joel quickly. The church budget needs to be planned and we need to know what resources we will have to work with in the coming year. Thank you for your continued support of our Green Hill Family.
PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN THANK OFFERING
The Thank Offering has long been a tradition of Presbyterian Women. It has provided and continues to provide much-needed financial assistance to numerous worthwhile programs not included in ongoing General Assembly mission support. Each year, domestic and international projects are carefully and prayerfully selected by the Creative Ministries Offering Committee to help meet a crucial need. If you feel called to contribute to this program, please use one of the blue donation envelopes which can be found in the pew racks.
The church’s annual Stewardship Sunday is fast approaching. At this time, we ask each member, each family, and all our regular worshipers, to prayerfully examine their resources and to pledge a portion to God’s work. On Stewardship Sunday, November 19, a special collection of the pledge cards will be held during the morning service. The cards may also be returned by mail to the church office. These pledges help the church plan our budget for the coming year. (Extra cards will be available on Sunday morning for those who may have misplaced the cards that were mailed to them.)
The annual Green Hill Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on Sunday, November 19, at 4:00pm. This year the church will provide the meat and everyone attending is asked to bring either a salad, a vegetable, or a dessert. If you didn’t turn in a purple slip on Sunday, please RSVP for this event by either contacting the church office or by signing up on the sheet in the kitchen. We have so much to be thankful for, and we look forward to fellowshipping with everyone over a family meal.
